What to see in the castle of monemvasia .

First of all relax : Monemvasia is not a place you visit- it”s a place you experience .Have a glass of the famous Malvasia wine .

What must see :

*The Yiannis Ritsos Museum, ( Just after the main entrance of the castle on the left and follow the main cobbled path ).

*Church of Agia Sophia(Holy Widom) in the upper town .Please note that the upper town is closed atrer 14:00 pm . Schedule your visit in the morning, to avoid the heat of the summer days . But fisrt of all relax .

There are over 30 churches inside the castle to visite .

Where you can go, outside the castle of monemvasia .

*Walk from the main entrance ( late in the afternoon) , towards the new city . There,you can do everything you need .Returning on foot ,late at night , it’s magic .

• Plan to visite (by car ) most beautiful spots in the area :

*Gerakas port ( 30 minutes aprox. by car from monemvasia ) .

• Xifias (Xifioupolis ) . 8 kilometers . Here you can swim in the beach Ambelakia and can stay for lunch in the lovely restaurants
• Pori beach . 3 kilomers form monemvasia

How will it be reached ;

1. By car from Athens ( the capital of Greece) .The ideal and fastest route is via the Athens-Corinth-Tripoli-Megalopolis-Sparta . From Sparta, you continue south on the national/provincial road towards Kroger’s,Molaoi,and finally Monemvasia.

Useful Travel Information.

• Tolls : The are toll stations along the A8,A7,and A71 motorways.
• Castle Parking: Remember that cars are strictly forbidden inside the medieval Castle Town. You must park your car on the bridge road or at the main parking lot before the gate and walk inside or use the local shuttle bus .

PLEASE NOTE: If you prefer not to drive,you can hire a professional van with a private chauffeur to take you to Monemvasia in comfort and safety.You can customise the itinerary so that the driver picks you up whenever you are ready to repot Athens.
