Greek cuisine is built on fresh, simple ingredients like olive oil, lemon, herbs and local cheese .One of the most loved dishes is mousses, layers of eggplant, spiced minced meat, and creamy bechamel baked until golden. For something lighter, horiatiki, the classic Greek salad, combines ripe tomatoes, cucumber, onion, olives, and a slash of feta, finished with oregano and olive oil .
Street food fans enjoy souvlaki, grilled skewers of marinated meat served in pita with tzatziki,a cool yogurt and cucumber dip.
Spanakopita,a flaky pie filled with spinach and feta,it is a staple at bakeries across the country.
And for dessert, baklava layers thin phyllo with nuts and sweet honey syrup, while thick Greek yogurt with honey and walnuts is a simple favorite.
Together, these dishes capture the warmth and traditional of Greek hospitality.
My favorite Greek dishes (food)
- 1: Kagianas is Greek scrambled eggs with tomato.Vertions differ from village to village,so this is the classic one
- * 4 ripe tomatoes,grated or finely chopped
- *4-5 eggs
- *3-4 tbsp olive oil
- *1 small onion,finely chopped (optional)
- * 100 gr feta,crumbled
- *Salt,pepper,and a piece of oregano
- Steps :
- 1. Heat the olive oil in a pan and soften the onion,if using, for 2-3 minutes.
- 2. And the tomatoes with a little salt. Simmer 10-15 minutes, until the sauce thickens and most of the liquid is gone.
- 3. Lower the heat.Crack the eggs into the sauce and stir gently.
- 4. Cook until the eggs are just set but still soft.
- 5. Grumble in the feta, and pepper and oregano, and serve with fresh bread.
- In Arcadia and the wider Peloponnese, people often fry local sausage (loucaniko) or pork first, then make the sauce in the same pan. Some cooks also beat the eggs separately and stir them in,which gives a more scrambled texture.
